Locating current injector
- Quick correction of insulation faults in complex power networks
- Universal auxiliary voltage range
Insulation fault location systems pinpoint exactly which circuit has an insulation fault in an unearthed IT system — while the system keeps running.

Insulation fault locator
Finding an insulation fault in an unearthed power supply (IT system) does not have to mean shutting it down. DOLD's VARIMETER EDS insulation fault location system (IFLS) locates faults while the system keeps running. It pairs a test current generator with an insulation fault locator, and differential (measuring) current transformers pick up and evaluate the test current signals to identify the faulty circuit in complex isolated AC/DC networks.
An IFLS is used together with an insulation monitor. When a fault occurs, it injects a test current between earth and the live conductors, so components with damaged insulation can be found and replaced before they fail. This supports DIN VDE 0100-410, which recommends that a first insulation fault in an IT system be cleared as quickly as possible.
In large industrial plants, tracking down insulation faults by hand is slow and expensive. Automatic location of faulty circuits raises reliability and plant availability and makes maintenance and repair easier to plan. DOLD notes that lower maintenance costs and fewer interruptions quickly offset the investment. Send us your system details and we'll help you put together the right EDS components.
